  129. Field sales trainees (FSTs) now have the option of attending
  130. sales schools in either Cupertino, California, or Toronto,
  131. Canada.  The Sales School Program has been updated.  The
  132. program is designed to graduate HP sales reps with
  133. professional and business expertise; technical knowledge of
  134. HP's solutions and services; and knowledge of HP
  135. organizational structure, corporate objectives, and
  136. standards of business conduct.  The program takes FSTs
  137. through several stages of development.
  138.  
  139. Step 1:  Orientation information
  140.  
  141. FSTs are given orientation materials that include overviews
  142. of HP, their region and country, office issues, and local
  143. resources.  The orientation materials must be completed
  144. within 30 days.
  145.  
  146. Step 2:  Basic Sales Training I (BSTI) SR1912
  147.  
  148. Over a two-week period, BSTI provides a variety of
  149. fundamental business skills including the sales process,
  150. time management, basic selling skills, terms and conditions,
  151. contract programs, leasing, remarketing, professional image,
  152. business conduct issues, personal styles, writing skills,
  153. and presentation skills.

  155. Step 3:  Winning with Computer Systems Organization (CSO)
  156. Products and Services (WCPS) SR2802
  157.  
  158. During a two and one-half week period, FSTs learn about
  159. CSO products, support, networking, peripherals,
  160. strategies, and key differentiators.

  162. Step 4:  Basic Sales Training II (BSTII) SR2912
  163.  
  164. During the two weeks of BSTII, FSTs learn PAR selling
  165. skills, telephone prospecting, strategic selling,
  166. consultative selling, and cold calls, and they complete a
  167. sales process case study.

  169. Step 5:  Partnering with Your Customers SR2902
  170.  
  171. In a three-day business simulation FSTs learn financial
  172. basics and receive a computer-based simulation on how a
  173. company is run.
  174.  
  175. Step 6:  Selling HP Solutions SR391
  176.  
  177. During this one-week course FSTs participate in a full sales
  178. simulation in which retired corporate executives role play
  179. customer executives.  The executives provide experience to
  180. the simulation and feedback to the FSTs during all phases of
  181. the simulated sale.

  183. Step 7:  Environmental classes
  184.  
  185. In the last training step FSTs attend the appropriate
  186. environmental training classes based on input from their
  187. district managers.  FSTs may choose from environmental
  188. classes on engineering, manufacturing, IT and MIS, or
  189. mainframe.

  254. As of September, Open Systems Today magazine is featuring HP
  255. products, services, and HP Channel Partners in a new section
  256. called HP Focus.  HP Focus provides an opportunity to expose
  257. customers to HP and to develop awareness for HP Channel
  258. Partner's products inside the HP market.  Open Systems Today
  259. is undertaking HP Focus based on HP's growing leadership in
  260. the open systems market and on incremental advertising
  261. revenues they expect from new advertisers.
  262.  
  263. Open Systems Today is a biweekly magazine for data
  264. processing and management information systems managers.  The
  265. magazine's circulation of over 100,000 is primarily in North
  266. America and includes Europe and Asia Pacific.  Qualified
  267. subscribers must be purchasers of open systems-related
  268. computer products and must buy over $100,000 annually to
  269. receive a free subscription.
  270.  
  271. HP Focus, a 10-20-page section, will be distributed monthly
  272. to subscribers who own, plan to buy, or have products that
  273. run on HP equipment.  Initially, HP Focus distribution will
  274. be approximately 45,000.  HP is not sponsoring HP Focus.
  275. All articles will be written by the Open Systems Today staff
  276. to maintain impartiality.

  279. have joint advertising in  each issue.  The first issue
  280. dates are September 28, October 12, and November 2.

  308. Americas Value-Added Channels Marketing Center (VMC), with
  309. the approval of Corporate Legal and the Corporate Design
  310. Center, is introducing a new insignia that HP Channel
  311. Partners can use to promote their relationship with HP.
  312. Channel Partners are eligible to display the insignia once
  313. they have met the requirements:  They must have a current
  314. signed HP Channel Partners contract or catalog agreement
  315. with HP; and they must have a signed copy of the HP Channel
  316. Partner Insignia Exhibit, Exhibit I-5, on file with HP.
  317.  
  318. Channel Partners will automatically complete Exhibit I-5 as
  319. part of their HP contract initial signing or renewal
  320. process.  HP is taking special steps to ensure that current
  321. Channel Partners are aware of the new channel program
  322. benefit.

  324. In September, North American Field Organization (NAFO)
  325. contracts reps sent copies of the insignia exhibit to
  326. Channel Partners in the U.S. and Canada whose contracts they
  327. manage.  NAFO reps are responsible for tracking insignia
  328. exhibits for their local Channel Partners and for forwarding
  329. requests for insignia artwork to NAFO headquarters for
  330. fulfillment.
  331.  
  332. Insignia exhibits will be handled differently for those
  333. Channel Partners whose contracts are not managed by NAFO
  334. contract reps.  Several channel program managers have been
  335. identified to handle this task for certified workstation
  336. resellers (CWRs), distributor authorized resellers (DARs),
  337. and complementary vendors (CVs).  These program managers
  338. will be responsible for mailing and tracking exhibits and
  339. fulfilling insignia artwork requests.
  340.  
  341. In addition to exhibit mailings, the VMC is sending a
  342. general mailing by October 1 to Channel Partner presidents,
  343. executives, and marketing contacts listed in the VALID
  344. database.  The letter will inform them of the new insignia
  345. and encourage them to sign and return the insignia exhibits
  346. that their companies will receive separately.
  347.  
  348. Any Channel Partner that has signed and returned Exhibit I-5
  349. is entitled to receive a copy of the Insignia Usage
  350. Guidelines for HP Channel Partners, P/N 5091-4512EUS, which
  351. contains the camera-ready artwork for the insignia.  These
  352. guidelines are available from the Literature Distribution
  353. Center.

  429. The Indirect Channel Training momentum started this April
  430. when Computer Systems Organization (CSO) Field Education and
  431. Development (FEAD) authorized the majority of their self-
  432. study materials for use by HP Channel Partners.  The
  433. momentum continued in June with workshops that provided
  434. Channel Partners with product, application, and competitive
  435. information.  Among attendees 99 percent rated the workshops
  436. relevant to their jobs and 97 percent stated they would use
  437. the materials in the next 60 days.
  438. Developing training for the indirect channel provides
  439. challenges.  Unlike HP sales reps, Channel Partners are not
  440. dedicated to HP products and are harder to captivate.  To
  441. gain their share of mind, the program must be interactive
  442. and motivational.  These challenges were met on July 11 when
  443. CSO FEAD broadcasted its first teleclass to over 130 Arrow
  444. Electronics sales reps.
  445.  
  446. The Arrow Electronics sales reps received product
  447. information on HP Apollo 9000 Series 700 workstations, X-
  448. stations, and HP 9000 Series 800 business servers.  In
  449. addition to the product information, the broadcast covered
  450. information on HP's distributor program, the Channel Partner
  451. recruiting process, and competitive differentiators.
  452.  
  453. During the development phase, FEAD collaborated with HP
  454. entities including the U.S. Field Organization, General
  455. Systems Division, Workstation Systems Group, Value-Added
  456. Channels Marketing Center, and the Americas Marketing Center
  457. Competitive Group.  Information presented in the teleclass
  458. was leveraged from current product and marketing programs
  459. and customized for the Arrow audience.
  460.  
  461. Although the teleclass was on Saturday, 80 percent of
  462. attendees rated it worth their time and 89 percent agreed
  463. that the HP managers demonstrated an excellent knowledge of
  464. the subject matter.  Based on the success of the July event,
  465. future broadcasts are planned for other Channel Partners.

  487. Americas Value-Added Channels Marketing Center (VMC) is
  488. announcing several changes to the mailing services programs
  489. that it offers to HP Channel Partners.
  490.  
  491. The installed-base mailing program is being discontinued as
  492. a formal program.  HP is recommending that Channel Partners
  493. use IMpact funds, co-op dollars, to buy or rent quality
  494. mailing lists from outside sources such as the HP
  495. Professional magazine or Interex to support direct mail
  496. campaigns to HP customers.  These sophisticated lists can be
  497. targeted to reach designated individuals in selected
  498. industries or markets improving Channel Partners' chances of
  499. reaching their target audience and maximizing the return on
  500. lead generation expenses.
  501.  
  502. A temporary hold has been placed on the Channel Partner-to-
  503. Channel Partner, formerly VAB-to-VAB, mailing program.  The
  504. program allows Channel Partners with user referenced
  505. solutions to reach other Channel Partners with information
  506. about their products or to solicit cross-licensing
  507. opportunities.  Requests for this service have outstripped
  508. the VMC's ability to fulfill them.  The service is being
  509. placed on hold pending an investigation into a new database
  510. that will allow the continuation of this service.

  535. catalog has been postponed until FY93.  In anticipation of
  536. Computer Systems Organization's new product introductions

  538. the catalog will be scheduled for second quarter FY93.  This

  540. sufficient time to port their applications so they can be

  623. Personalized coaching by Bob Fox, an industry expert, is
  624. available in Coaching the Automotive/Heavy Equipment Sales
  625. Rep course.  Bob provides guidance on getting high-level
  626. appointments, planning a successful sales strategy, and
  627. improving customer presentations.  Bob also provides post-
  628. call evaluation after attending the customer presentation
  629. with the sales rep and district manager.

  631. The first two coaching sessions were held in August in the
  632. Midwest.  In a follow-up survey, 100 percent of the sales
  633. reps stated that the course resulted in improved on-the-job
  634. performance.  Based on the success of this program, more
  635. sessions are planned for 1993.

  637. Before attending the coaching sessions, sales reps must
  638. complete Winning in the Automotive/Heavy Equipment Industry
  639. and their attendance must be approved by their district
  640. manager.

  722. CA's leading mainframe applications software available on HP
  723. 9000 Series 800 systems. This marks the first time that CA's
  724. mainframe financials, database, and fourth-generation
  725. language, 4GL, applications will be made available on a UNIX
  726. system.  CA will develop Masterpiece Series financial
  727. software, CA-IDMS and CA-DATACOM databases, and CA-ADS and
  728. CA-IDEAL 4GLs for Series 800 business servers.  These
  729. products will be available in 1993.

  731. The announcement extends a strategic alliance between the
  732. two companies.  They will provide a flexible, cost-effective
  733. alternative to run for chief information officers from CA's
  734. large mainframe users, who said they plan to incorporate
  735. UNIX-based systems into their computing environments.

  737. HP also announced plans to provide CA-UNICENTER, the first
  738. mainframe-class, systems-management software for commercial
  739. UNIX system environments, on all midrange and high-end
  740. Series 800 systems.  CA-UNICENTER is a single, integrated
  741. solution providing automated storage management, production
  742. control, security, resource accounting, and data center
  743. automation.

  745. Series 800 customers will receive from CA a no-cost 120-day
  746. license with documentation for CA-UNICENTER.  After 120
  747. days, customers who want to continue using CA-UNICENTER will
  748. license it directly from CA.  The bundle promotion will

  750. UNICENTER is available on the Series 800 platform and follow
  751. for Europe and Asia Pacific.

  941. allowed them to meet their productivity goals.  IC placement
  942. time was cut from six hours to three hours, global routing
  943. was cut from two hours to one hour, and final routing was
  944. cut from eight hours to three hours.  The customer purchased
  945. three additional systems.

  1633. into any HP 1000 A-Series computer that is in a 14-
  1634. slot box.  The new peripheral tray will connect to the HP
  1635. 1000 via a dedicated P/N 12016A interface, which must be
  1636. ordered separately.
  1637. P/N 12123A provides a complete integrated system with a
  1638. high-capacity disk drive and compact backup and software
  1639. load device.  All HP 1000 software products are available on
  1640. DAT tape by specifying option AAH.  Both the DAT tape and
  1641. the hard disk drive are supported HP 1000 startup devices.
  1642. The new integrated peripherals are all supported using HP
  1643. RTE-A Revision 5.27.

  3426. HP has received reports from HP Channel Partners of
  3427. fraudulent toner activity and is investigating as many of
  3428. these reports as possible.
  3429.  
  3430. In most cases, Channel Partners are contacted by
  3431. telemarketers who offer what is claimed to be a genuine HP
  3432. toner.  The price is below that offered by HP, and payment
  3433. is required on delivery.  The product is a refilled toner
  3434. cartridge in an HP look-alike box.  The box is bleached
  3435. white with a blue stripe and purple label but contains no
  3436. HP logo.  The new kraft box is also being copied.
  3437.  
  3438. One situation being investigated involves an exact copy of
  3439. the HP box except that there is no box certificate on the
  3440. bottom indicating origin and burst strength.  Once the box
  3441. is opened, there are other indications that the cartridge
  3442. has been refilled.

  3471. HP 700/RX family of X stations.  This software release
  3472. provides ease of use and flexibility.  The local clients
  3473. (processes that run locally on the X station to offload the
  3474. host system) include HP Visual User Environment/RX (HP
  3475. VUE/RX).

  3479. HP VUE/RX--HP's local user environment:
  3480. allows users to easily manage multiple windows and create
  3481. multiple workspaces within the X station, while providing
  3482. the familiar look and feel of HP VUE 3.0
  3483. combines the ease of use and functionality of a user
  3484. environment with local client benefits, such as host RAM and
  3485. MIPS offloading and reduced network traffic allowing users
  3486. to add X station seats to a host configuration with no
  3487. performance degradation
  3488. allows X station users access to HP VUE/RX regardless of
  3489. host configuration
  3490. provides fast and easy access to multiple workspaces,
  3491. allowing X station users to organize multiple windows by
  3492. activity, client, or project
  3493. shields users from the intricacies of UNIX systems through
  3494. the use of intuitive icons, pull-down menus, and slide-up
  3495. bars
  3496. provides a workspace control panel that permits switching
  3497. between workspaces, a tool box icon for launching frequently
  3498. used applications/tools, and a local client launcher for
  3499. other local clients

  3501. Frontend HP VUE for system configurations with host RAM and
  3502. performance constraints:
  3503. offers the complete functionality of HP VUE 3.0
  3504. provides systems administrators with the flexibility to
  3505. configure systems to their particular needs
  3506. allows some HP VUE 3.0 operations to run on the host while
  3507. running the VUE window manager within the X station
  3508. provides drag-and-drop capability and a workspace control
  3509. panel

  3511. The new software includes features that provide system
  3512. administrators and users with the flexibility to configure
  3513. their environments.

  3515. local window managers and terminal emulators--OSF/Motif 1.2
  3516. Window Manager (mwm), Tom Window Manager (twm), Xterm, and
  3517. HPterm are all offered as local clients. All local clients,
  3518. including HP VUE/RX and Frontend HP VUE are downloadable
  3519. clients that can be started and terminated at the user's
  3520. request. Memory used by the local client is returned when
  3521. the client is terminated.

  3523. selectable/downloadable extensions--allow system
  3524. administrators to selectively download feature extensions to
  3525. the X station's base software, which optimizes X station
  3526. resources while satisfying end user requirements.  Three
  3527. extensions will initially be provided:  SharedX extension;
  3528. MIT Multibuffering extension; and HP Multibuffering
  3529. extension.

  3531. X11R5 server support--includes the use of an optional font
  3532. server and arc drawing performance enhancements
  3533.  
  3534. performance enhancements--X11 performance will increase by
  3535. over 60 percent for HP 700/RX Model 19Ca, 16Ca, 19Ga; the
  3536. X11perf rating will be 2,800 X11perfs; the Xstone rating
  3537. will increase from 86,000 Xstones to 93,000 Xstones.

  3540. terminal restarting from remote locations, enabling systems
  3541. administrators to administer X stations more quickly and
  3542. easily

  3546. The software release is available on November 1 with P/Ns
  3547. C2715A, C2716A, C2718A, C2721A, and C2722A.  These part
  3548. numbers identify the HP 9000 Series 300 and 800 and HP
  3549. Apollo 9000 Series 400 and 700 workstation and server
  3550. software.  The software release will be available with P/Ns
  3551. C2720A and C2723A in January 1993.

  3553. Customers currently on software support services for these
  3554. products will automatically receive this software release
  3555. after November 1.

  3584. product can now be ordered as P/N C2718A option AA4.

  3588. media option.  Now, only Series 700 X-Server software is
